Home > How to Find the path name of the Lotus Notes mail database
If you need to work with Lotus Notes Calendar or Todo information in our products, the software may ask for the location of your Lotus Notes mail database.

If the database file is located on your local computer, you may simply specify the full path name of the .nsf database. If the database is located on a remote server, please use the "[Server Name]!![Database Name]" format text as the database name.

If you don't know where is the database, you may:
  • Ask your Domino administrator :)

  • Follow the steps below to have a try:

    1. Open Lotus Notes, check the "Location" you need. In the screenshot below, the "Location" is "Example", which is created as an example for this guide.

    2. Check the Lotus Notes preferences (From menu: [File]->[Preferences...]). And check the "Location" preferences as below:

    3. Edit the location and switch to the "Mail" sheet:

The mail database in the "Example" location is "Local". The mail file is: "mail\jamesjam".

In this case the mail database name our software need is: "D:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data\mail\jamesjam.nsf". Because that the "Local" data path is "D:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data\", and the mail file is "mail\jamesjam", and we must add ".nsf" extension to the file name.

And here is a remote server example:

The mail database file that LivePIM software needs is: "Primary1/LivePIM!!mail\adminini.nsf"

Because that the server name is "Primary1/LivePIM" and the mail file is "mail/adminini". And we also need to add the ".nsf" extension name.
